M.Steel road bike – For Sale

M.Steel is from the north east. As a shop it has actually been around since the late 1800′s, but has only been in the world of making and selling bicycles for about 80 years.

In 1980 Geoff and Dave Yates founded ‘M. Steel Lightweight Cycles Ltd’ so they could manufacture high quality custom steel frames. Not so long after this Joe Waugh came on the scene, at this point he was at the height of his cycling career. Joe acted as a mobile test bed for the company products. The company became established and well respected and managed to  build quality frames right up until 2005 when demand from aluminium bikes meant their business was no longer sustainable. God damn aluminium!

This bike is in very nice original condition. She is a real head turner and comes from a good line of blood.

I am sure she will be snapped up in no time.

Top tube 58 cm, seat tube 60 cm.

She comes rebuilt and fully serviced.

As always pop by or send us an email if you want any more info.

Condor classic 531 Road bike – For Sale

This piercing blue Condor jut came in. Very nice. Condor of course still exist and they still make bikes. The desirability of both their new and classic bikes seemingly never dwindles. Classic Touring bikes for Sale- Allin

If you look at the picture of the white Metropole below you will see a red touring bike in the background. It’s a handbuilt Reynolds 531 Allin. It’s got a 5 speed Sturmey archer hub and a very nice Mafac brake set.

It’s a 52cm and it’s bloody gorgeous.

We also have a blue Reynolds 531 handbuilt Allin tourer, but with dérailleur gears.

Fitted with a Brooks titanium rail saddle, mudguards and front and back racks this bad boy is rearing to go. He is 52cm and has also been built using Reynolds 531.

If you are in the market for a touring bike (which you should be because touring is ace) please feel free to come by and take these 2 for a test ride, they are both incredible, I don’t envy someone trying to choose between the 2.

T J Quick

We have just received the 2 T J Quick bikes Rob has been hankering after.

T J Quick was a builder based not so far from Herne Hill station and it’s said as a builder he is up there with the likes of Witcomb.

Anyway more to come about this next week- I can’t get pictures right now  as Rob is busy pawing them.

Wren bicycle for sale

Traditionally Sargent and Co deal in the renovation and resale of classic bicycles, but you may have noted that we are selling new bicycles  of late.

We have not turned our back on our old racing friends, not for one minute. We do however recognise that their is always a future classic just around the corner.

We have recently got a Wren bicycle (London based cycle company)  and  it’s a winner.

Size: It’s small but it doesn’t ride like it is. It feels steady, it doesn’t twitch like some of the other small town bikes on the market.

Gears/brakes: It’s 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub gear, yep, great and drum brakes- keeping all the mechanisms internal really helps reduce wear and tear maintenance which I am  all for.

Moving stuff: It has front and rear racks, both removable. Flexible. I like flexible.

Comfort: Brook sprung saddle- nice on the bottom and looks the part. Self colour mudguards to keep your comfortable bottom dry.

What else: It’s also fitted with a kickstand, a bell, a big rear reflector and Schwalbe marathon plus tyres i.e. bombproof.

It’s easy to see this bike has been thought out. The ride is stable and the components are considered. It’s great to look at. It’s keenly priced. It’s £595, which I think for the specification you get is great. I like this bike a lot, but I won’t be getting one because my boyfriend will leave me if I take any more bikes home- mmm is it worth it?

Bike pictures on the website

The website has been updated with images and spec’s of some of the bikes in store.

This classic British Youngs touring bike is up on the site as is a rather delicious Viking ‘Tour of Britain’ and a jaw droppingly beautiful Pinarello, (it’s a Lothario that one, I tell you), anyway go and have a butchers for yourself, Sargent and Co.

Hobbs of Barbican – Blue Riband

Rob is about to embark on a new mission, operation Blue Riband; and no we haven’t ventured into the world of chcoclate bars, that would be daft, we are talking a different type of  Blue Riband here, we are talking the creme de la creme of cycles, we are talking about one of the best machines that Hobbs of Barbican produced.

Courtesy of Classic Rendezvous (http://www.classicrendezvous.com)

We have a customer, Ron, who back in the 1950′s aged 17 was lucky enough to own one of these fantastic machines- he had one identical to the one pictured.
Ron happened to chance upon this picture whilst happily surfing the internet and it set the the cogs in his mind spinning and a turning- could he own a bike like this again?
Ron decided yes, yes he could, he penned a charming email to Rob and Rob hopped on board- between them they will either find this bike or do their damn hardest to make a near as possible replicate.
This is not going to be an easy task, scouring jumbles and websites and trawling eBay to find the ‘perfect’ parts, this mission will require absolute dedication and focus, but the outcome, oh the outcome that is the best part, knowing that Ron will be the happiest rider on earth….even if he doesn’t put the miles in he used to :  )
‘At 78 years of age it would not be used in “earnest”, but for my daily cycle
ride about the countryside of Herefordshire..in the hope that I can keep fit until the Good Lord thinks otherwise’.
Thanks for your custom Ron, it’s an honour.

Peugeots SOLD, Motobecane, Falcon SOLD- For Sale

We have lots on new bikes in:

First off we have his n’ hers Peugeots , these can be sold separately, but their is something both scary and amazing when couples rock the same look, so I vote they stay together. Paul Daniels and Debbie Mc Gee often champion matching outfits, or at least carefully coordinated outfits, as do Wills and Kate, the Beckhams’ and Mariah Carey and whoever he is.

Now you may mock, but Paul and Debbie have been together for an eternity, and the Beckhams, well they have survived against all  the odds, both bikes come in at under £500 for the pair, a hell of a lot cheaper than a divorce, or even an annulment.

Nb: We can sell separately if someone really wants just one of them.

French leaf green- feast your eyes on that for a colour

We have an early 70′s Motebecane and the colour is  so fresh it makes your eyes hurt. This tasty French Reynolds 531 machine will be £380.00, fully rebuilt. Ooh la la la.

And last, but by no means least, is this very classy looking ladies Falcon road bike. She has recently been tastefully resprayed in off white, and has a beautiful vintage brown Brooks saddle

She isn't fashionable, she is stylish

I think this bike is an absolute delight, but it is way to small for me, I am 5 ft 7 (and a half), I think she is best suited to  a more petite member of the fairer sex.

The Falcon has been fully rebuilt and is ready to ride away today, £380.00.
